BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
The ideas and techniques of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking are presented in this module and are applicable to various design areas, such as architecture and construction. The studio's main focus is "User and Context," which looks at how users interact with their surroundings naturally. In this studio, students will work through a variety of studio-based exercises, first investigating architectural spaces and construction through precedent research, then examining form and space through architectural conceptualization. The last step involves having students create a modest freestanding building that relates to the site setting and satisfies user needs.
Project 1: Famous Architect’s Building - Materials Application

Each student must decide on a "interesting" building created by one of the listed architects. Following this, the student must list two structural building materials and five architectural building materials depending on the building they have chosen. Students must also study the concepts and ideas that guided the choice of the building's materials. Additionally, students must explain how one of the materials was installed on the chosen building.

Project 2: Construction Drawings

For this module, students are required to create a set of construction drawings in groups of 6-7 people based on a floor plan for a double-story terraced house that they will acquire. The drawings must include the detailing of building elements on superstructure, such as floor, wall, door, window, staircase, and roof.
